Hexapons – The Pieces
The underlying geometric shape of the hexapons is a triangle with two 30° angles that fits precisely into the grid shown.
The ten hexapons belong to the family of polypons.
There are:
2 dipons, 2 tripons, 4 tetrapons, 4 pentapons, 10 hexapons, 13 heptapons, and 29 octapons.

Symmetries of Hexapon Shapes
From the ten Hexapons, you can assemble the star shown in the illustration – a shape with maximum symmetry: six axes of reflection and sixfold rotational symmetry. This shape has exactly one solution when symmetries are factored out.
In general, symmetric shapes made from Hexapons are rare. Apart from the star mentioned above, no other shape is known that has more than one axis of reflection.
