Just like in the Tangram puzzle, the pieces of the Pythagoras puzzle can also be assembled entirely from right isosceles triangles. They therefore belong to the family of polyabolos.

Just like the Tangram, the Pythagoras puzzle consists of seven pieces and can be assembled into a square.

Some of the possible shapes fit exactly into a grid of right isosceles triangles. Such grid-conforming shapes can be computed and displayed automatically by a solving program.

There are also symmetrical shapes that are not grid-conforming. These cannot be processed by the solver—as shown by the example in the illustration.

The 3D-print templates consist of the seven Pythagoras puzzle pieces and a slider box.
