Snubsquares – The Pieces
Snub Squares – a Puzzle Based on Equilateral Triangles and Squares
The SnubSquare grid consists of squares and equilateral triangles, with the ratio of squares to triangles being 1:2.
There are 49 combinations of SnubSquare polyforms that are made up of 2 squares and 4 triangles. In 12 of the 49 polyforms, the squares are separated by 2 triangles (Figure 1); in the remaining 37, the two squares are connected at a single corner.

3D-printed Puzzles
Ideally, one begins with a complete set of a given polyform family and attempts to derive from it a symmetric shape suitable for a puzzle. An example of this approach is the set of 12 SnubSquares composed of 2 squares and 4 triangles, in which the squares do not touch. Unfortunately, no suitable symmetric shape has been found for this set so far.
For this reason, the 3D-printed puzzle is based on a shape composed of 6 SnubSquares.
The link in the download section leads to the corresponding page on Printables. There, in addition to the print files for the puzzle, you will also find 3D files for all 49 SnubSquare pieces, as well as SnubSquare files for use with the Polysolver solution software.
