The Soma puzzle consists of 7 pieces: six of the pieces are composed of 4 cubes each, and one piece is composed of 3 cubes. Together, they form a total of 27 unit cubes.

The puzzle was invented in 1936 by Piet Hein during a lecture on quantum physics. Numerous variants of the puzzle have been developed since then.

From the many existing Soma shapes, I have included several examples — along with their solutions — on the soma shapes page.

There are eight ways to produce a set of Soma pieces with a checkerboard pattern. However, for pattern sets Nos. 2, 4, 5, and 7 there are no solutions for the cube. Using the Soma solver program, solutions for arbitrary shapes can be computed for all checkerboard-Soma sets.

The 3D-print templates consist of seven Soma puzzle pieces and a box.
