Trihopses, Tetrahopses – the Pieces

Trihopses consist of three connected squares. The underlying grid is unusual: in this grid, each row is shifted by half a square relative to the next. In total, there are five different trihopses.

Tetrahopses are made up of four such squares. There are 16 distinct forms of them. Both trihopses and tetrahopses belong to the family of polyhopses.

Trihops and Tetrahops Puzzles

The 5 trihops together make 15 squares. That is sufficient for a simple small puzzle.

No symmetric shape is known for the complete set of 16 tetrahops. The tetrahops puzzle available in the download area is therefore provided in the form of an isosceles triangle and additionally includes a dihops to make that shape possible.

If fewer than 16 pieces are used, however, several symmetric shapes can be found.
