Trigems – The Pieces
Trigems – A Puzzle Based on Pentagons
The fundamental unit of the polygems is a pentagon derived from one third of a regular hexagon, fitting seamlessly into the illustrated grid.
The polygem family includes 4 digems, 15 trigems, and 78 tetragems. For a puzzle, the full set of 15 trigems is particularly suitable, as it offers an optimal balance between variety and playability.

Symmetries in Trigem Shapes
Because polygems are arranged in a hexagonal grid, it is natural to search for shapes that exhibit the same high degree of symmetry as a regular hexagon—namely six rotational symmetries and six reflection axes.
A fully symmetric shape can indeed be assembled from all 15 Trigems. It is the only known shape with this level of maximal symmetry that can be constructed from the entire set of Trigems.
