Trihexes – The Pieces

The trihex grid is composed of two geometric shapes: regular hexagons and equilateral triangles.

Each puzzle piece consists of a single hexagon that is connected to between 0 and 6 triangles.

In this way, 14 different pieces are created. Twelve of them are mirror-symmetric, and the remaining two form an asymmetric pair: they differ in their reflection but are otherwise identical in structure.

3D-printed puzzles

In the download section, you will find templates for two different Trihex puzzles for 3D printing:

Puzzle No. 1 uses all 14 distinct Trihex pieces. The resulting shape has two lines of reflection and a twofold rotational symmetry.

Puzzle No. 2, on the other hand, consists of only 13 different pieces. One piece is used twice. This shape achieves the highest possible symmetry in the Trihex grid: it features sixfold rotational symmetry and six lines of reflection.
